Bobbi Kristina Brown estate wins $36 million in civil suit

Maryland residents who are following the Bobbi Kristina Brown wrongful death case may have heard that her partner, Nick Gordon, was ordered to pay her estate $36 million. The decision was announced by Brown's estate on Nov. 17.

Brown, the child of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, was discovered unconscious in her tub back in January 2015. According to the suit, Gordon put the woman face down in a tub full of cold water after he had given her a toxic cocktail that rendered her unconscious. She passed away six months following the incident.

After Gordon failed to show for the civil lawsuit hearings back in September, the judge decided to rule in favor of the allegations made against him by Brown's estate. Therefore, the court found him legally responsible for Brown's death.

Brown's estate was reportedly seeking a $50 million award in the case, alleging that Gordon tried to manipulate Bobbi Kristina so he could take advantage of her wealth. While he was not charged for any criminal misconduct in the death, a representative of the district attorney with jurisdiction in the case said the incident is still being investigated. Gordon was not in attendance when the wrongful lawsuit decision was announced and did not hire attorneys to defend himself.

Those who are grieving over the sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one might also be faced with funeral and medical expenses that they cannot pay. However, if the family believes that the death was due to the negligent or willful actions of another person, they might consider pursuing compensation via a wrongful death claim.
