Tracy Morgan files suit after car accident; Wal-Mart responds

Maryland residents may remember the devastating accident that occurred four months ago that severely injured actor and comedian Tracy Morgan. The accident involved six vehicles, including a Wal-Mart truck, and the limo bus Morgan and his friends were riding in. Morgan, along with five others suffered traumatic head injuries. Sadly, one man riding with Morgan lost his life in the June crash.

Morgan has since filed suit against Wal-Mart with regards to the accident, and Wal-Mart has filed its response. In Wal-Mart's response, it claims that the actor as well as the other victims were at fault for not wearing seat belts. According to Wal-Mart, had the victims been wearing safety belts, at least part, if not all, of their injuries could have been reduced or even prevented. According to Morgan's suit, Wal-Mart should have known that the driver was operating the semi-truck without getting an adequate amount of sleep. In the meantime, Morgan remains focused on recovery.

As this shows, drowsy driving is dangerous, particularly when someone is operating a semi-truck. Truck drivers must adhere to federal regulations regarding how much time they can spend on the road, and when they must take rest breaks. Failing to follow those rules could easily lead to an accident.

Victims of catastrophic car accidents like this deserve to seek compensation for their losses. With the right help, victims can pursue a lawsuit against the responsible party. In some cases this will be another driver, and in the cases like this, even the truck company may face liability. Recovering from a car crash is not always easy, but with the right financial compensation, victims may be able to focus on healing rather than worrying about money.
