School bus accident in Maryland injures 19 kids, 1 adult

It is only natural that parents expect that their kids will be safe while riding on the school bus. After all, thousands of kids across Maryland take the ubiquitous big yellow school bus every day without incident. That is why a recent school bus accident that injured almost 20 students is so unusual and so concerning.

The accident occurred in Bethesda, Maryland. The bus, which was carrying students from Washington D.C., was returning from a field trip. Suddenly, the bus struck another vehicle from behind while that vehicle was waiting at a red light. The force of the impact caused that vehicle to strike a third vehicle. All in all, 19 students were taken to an area hospital via medical ambulance bus, where their injuries were evaluated. One adult also suffered injuries in the crash, although they do not appear to have been life-threatening.

Multi-vehicle car accidents can be pretty complex when it comes to sorting out liability. However, should a bus or other common carrier cause an accident, victims may be able to sue both the bus driver and the bus company, school or city itself. Bus drivers are expected to adhere to a reasonable standard of care. All this means is that they are expected to follow traffic signs and signals, drive at the posted speed limit and in general drive as a reasonable bus driver would do in similar circumstances. Holding the right parties accountable can be very important for victims who are seeking compensation for catastrophic injuries.

Bus accidents can be especially devastating as the potential for injuries is heightened due to the fact that there may be many passengers aboard. However, anyone involved in a bus accident deserves to pursue damages and hold all responsible parties accountable.
