Maryland bus accident leaves woman with life-threatening injuries

An early-morning bus ride in Maryland can be a quiet affair. After all, it may seem like an accident is most likely to occur during the busy rush hours, not the wee hours of the morning. However, due to their sheer size and the care they take in handling, buses are prone to accidents and driver error at any hour of the day.

A 34-year-old woman was struck by a Ride On bus in Montgomery County and left with injuries that have been described as life-threatening woman. The woman was reportedly standing near an area high school around 5:00 in the morning when the accident occurred. According to witnesses, the traffic lights at the intersection were blinking red and yellow. An investigation is ongoing. Police are looking into the possibility that surveillance video may have captured the incident and are also looking at the "black box" for clues as to the bus' speed and rate of deceleration. At the time of the accident, the 59-year-old driver of the bus had just started his shift.

When car accidents like this occur, victims may be left wondering how to pick up the pieces of their lives and move on. Financial compensation is one way to help car accident victims recover. Buses, be they city buses, school buses or tour buses, are considered to be common carriers. This simply means that they take people from point A to point B in exchange for some form of compensation, usually financial. While it may seem like a negligent bus driver is the only one who can be held liable in a bus accident, this may not be true. Bus companies have the duty to ensure that their drivers have the appropriate licenses, that their buses are maintained properly and that they are generally fit to be a common carrier. If a bus company does not meet these obligations, they too may be held liable for a crash.

Holding the right parties accountable is important for any victim of a car crash. Fortunately, with the right compensation, many parties are able to make a full recovery.
