Semi-truck accident injures Maryland police officer

A traffic accident involving several vehicles recently injured two individuals, including a police officer for the University of Maryland. The accident began when a big-rig collided with the officer's parked car. The officer was inside her car at the time of the crash. The big-rig then proceeded to hit several other parked vehicles. It is not yet known what caused the big-rig to lose control of his vehicle. The officer and the driver of the big-rig were both transported to area hospitals with injuries they suffered in the crash. The crash also caused a significant amount of diesel fluid to spill on the roadway, necessitating a clean up.

As this shows, drivers of big-rigs and other large commercial vehicles are tasked with operating their vehicles safely in order to avoid causing car accidents. This may include understanding their turning radius, keeping a safe distance from other drivers, driving at the posted speed limit and understanding their acceleration and deceleration speeds. However, should a driver fail to meet their due standard of care, they may find themselves facing a civil lawsuit.

When a person is injured in an accident with a big-rig, they'll want to make sure all responsible parties are held accountable. When it comes to big-rig accidents, in some cases it is possible to hold both the driver of the big-rig as well as the company they work for responsible for the accident. This is usually the case if the driver and company had an employee-employer relationship and if the accident occurred during the course of the driver's work duties.

When a person is injured in a car accident, they may incur some significant medical expenses. These costs are only compounded should the victim be too injured to work. Fortunately, victims are allowed to pursue a civil lawsuit to obtain the financial resources they need to fully recover from the crash.
