Massive traffic accident kills Maryland resident

As Maryland residents know, driving in ice and snow is a precarious endeavor. The possibility for a traffic accident to occur in such situations is very real, and sadly some of these traffic accidents can lead to the death of one or more individuals

A massive traffic accident on Interstate 81 in West Virginia involving 49 vehicles, including 13 semi trucks, injured over a dozen people and killed two more, one from Maryland. Heavy, wet snow had covered the roadways making them slick and hazardous and caused whiteout conditions that obscured visibility. One semi truck fell onto its side, spilling over 1500 gallons of oil on the roadway. Some of the victims were trapped inside their vehicles and had to be rescued. In addition, some of the individuals involved suffered critical injuries and were sent to hospitals in Baltimore.

When winter weather strikes, it is important for all drivers to slow down, keep a safe driving distance from vehicles in front of them and pay attention to the road. The failure to follow the appropriate standard of care could lead to a lawsuit. In situations like these the family members of those involved in a fatal car accident may want to seek compensation for the harms they suffered. This includes not only financial recovery for the victim's pain and suffering, but also compensation for death expenses, medical bills, loss of consortium, loss of income and other costs associated with the death of a loved one.

Because of the many issues involved in fatal car accidents, it may be helpful for the victim's family members to discuss their situation with an attorney. This may help victims determine the best course of action that will allow them to pursue the maximum amount of compensation possible.
