Fiery crash claims the lives of two individuals in Maryland

When a fatal accident occurs, the victim's loved ones are left to cope with unimaginable grief. When this happens it is important that families in Maryland collect all the information they need to seek compensation from the parties at fault for the accident.

Two people are dead following a fiery three-car accident. The accident occurred in Williamsport on Interstate-81 at approximately 11:20 in the morning on March 11.

The accident began when a Jeep Liberty slowed down due to construction. Following that, a pickup truck struck the Jeep from behind, and then proceeded to rear-end a Chevrolet Blazer. The force of the impact caused the Jeep to strike a guardrail and then catch on fire, trapping the driver and passenger inside. Although fire crews worked diligently to extinguish the blaze, they were unable to save the occupants of the Jeep. The pickup truck also burst into flames. In addition, the Chevrolet was sent crashing into some trees on the side of the Interstate.

According to police, the driver of the pickup truck did not take note of the traffic slow-down when the incident occurred. The driver and passenger of the Jeep died in the crash, and the drivers of the pickup truck and the Chevrolet Blazer declined hospitalization following the crash. Maryland State Police are investigating the auto accident along with a crash reconstruction team.

Accident reconstruction can be an important aspect of any police investigation following fatal car accidents. An accident reconstruction team can work to determine the cause of the accident and which party may be responsible for it. They do so by examining things such as skid marks on the road, the damages of each vehicle, the speed each vehicle was driving at during the crash and the weather conditions when the accident occurred.

Reconstruction results can be useful to victims who are pursuing an out-of-court settlement or litigation following the crash. By holding negligent drivers accountable, the families of the deceased may be able to obtain the financial resources they need during a dark and difficult time in their lives.
