Maryland road worker killed while on the job

There's no denying that construction work is a dangerous job. Every day workers on Maryland's roads and highways put their trust in drivers to take care to slow down in construction zones, obey lane changes and in general drive safely. Unfortunately, one Maryland construction road worker recently lost his life while on-the-job.

The company the 54-year-old victim worked for was Erosion Control and Landscape Service, Inc. The State Highway Administration had a subcontract agreement with the company.

The accident occurred on Interstate 695. A ford pickup truck was driving on the Inner Loop around 2:00 in the afternoon when it veered onto the right hand shoulder and hit the victim. Two additional workers were present at the time of the crash, but they were not injured. The victim suffered critical injuries, and ultimately passed away. The driver of the pickup truck may face criminal charges as a result of the accident, which is under investigation.

When a worker dies while on-the-job, their family is left to cope with tragic loss in their lives. The expenses associated with the death of a loved one quickly add up, and may become overwhelming. Because of this, Maryland employers provide their workers with workers' compensation benefits. The benefits work like insurance to cover the costs associated with the injury or death of a worker. Employer negligence need not be a factor for workers to obtain benefits.

No one should have to face the workers' compensation system alone. To make sure no details are overlooked, workers or their families may want to enlist the aid of a professional to help them get the compensation they deserve.
