Maryland pedestrian killed in fatal accident

Pedestrians are especially vulnerable to motor vehicle accidents. After all, a human being simply cannot stand up to a crash involving a car weighing thousands of pounds. Maryland readers may be saddened to hear of one recent pedestrian accident that resulted in a fatality.

Maryland State Police have reported a pedestrian accident that killed one man. The victim was driving south on Route 589 around 9:30 in the evening when he pulled over into the travel lane. He left his hazard lights flashing and his engine on, and exited his vehicle. The man then began walking on the northbound travel lane. At this point, a man driving a second vehicle saw the victim's vehicle. The driver pulled to the right in an attempt to avoid hitting the victim's vehicle, but then struck the victim, who he did not see. The accident is still under police investigation.

It is estimated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that one person is killed in an auto-pedestrian accident every two hours. This is especially important to know when one considers that pedestrians could be present on just about any type of road at any time of the day. Even if a pedestrian is not walking on a sidewalk or in a crosswalk, motorists have a duty to drive safely around them. When a motorist fails in this duty and strikes and kills a pedestrian, the pedestrian's family may be able to seek compensation from the responsible driver through a wrongful death suit.

Families of pedestrians killed in a fatal accident do have rights. By exploring all their options, they may be able to find a resolution that helps them during what is a devastating point in their lives.
