Maryland wrong-way driver kills one and injures another

It's a simple proposition for drivers on the road to follow traffic direction signs. But all too often there are tragic accidents from drivers' either ignoring directional signs or not knowing what they mean. A local Maryland family is facing a tragic loss after an accident due to a driver going the wrong way on the interstate.

The accident took place on December 9th on Interstate 70 near Route 180. A car traveling in the wrong direction in the westbound lane of the interstate struck the car of a woman from Baltimore. The man's car, which was traveling in the wrong direction, overturned and went over a guardrail and in to the ditch where it caught on fire. The driver of that car was flown to a local hospital for treatment, and a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was also taken to the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle that was traveling in the wrong direction was a man from Frederick, Maryland. A preliminary investigation by the Maryland State Police crash team concluded that alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision. This may not be surprising since drunk driving can often be a contributing factor in wrong-way accidents.

Families of those who lose their lives in a fatal accident are well within their rights to seek compensation for their losses in a wrongful death claim under Maryland law. Victims and their families should seek payment for any medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, expenses to repair or replace their vehicles or any other expense incurred because of the negligent actions of the wrong-way driver. Victims and their families should strongly consider contacting a personal injury attorney to help them proceed with getting compensation for their loss of a loved one.
