Maryland state trooper suffers from roadside accident

Police officers put their lives on the line every day while working to enforce the law and keep the public safe. With their risky jobs comes the potential for injuries from a variety of sources, including violent individuals, chasing a fleeing suspect and car accidents. Recently, one Maryland state trooper suffered a workplace injury when she was hit on the side of the highway.

The officer was backing up a K-9 trooper who had pulled over a suspected drunken driver. While she was walking on the shoulder of the highway toward the vehicle she was struck by a Nissan. The officer was then thrown onto the hood of the car and then onto the back of the K-9 unit. The force threw her through the back windshield and into the metal cage. She then fell off the car and landed in a ditch beside the road.

The Maryland state trooper was listed in critical condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after she was struck by a car early Sunday morning. The trooper suffered a serious head injury, a broken arm, and cuts and bruises. The injuries could keep her in the hospital for weeks and may prevent her from returning to work for months.

Workers who have suffered from a workplace accident in Maryland may be able to relieve some of the financial burden by filing for workers' compensation benefits. An experienced attorney can help with the procedure in order to help make up for the injuries suffered and financial consequences, including lost income from not being able to return to work, unexpected medical bills and related expenses.
