Maryland fan seriously injured after falling at Raven's game

A tragic trend has hit the NFL this weekend that may compel the league to seriously consider improving safety features in stadiums across the country. Fan falling accidents seem to be more and more common as thousands of fans fill stadiums to cheer on their favorite teams.

In Maryland a 48-year-old man fell and hit his head at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday. The incident occurred during the Ravens' win against the New York Jets. The man from Ferndale, Maryland fell on the steps of the upper deck inside the seating bowl. At this time the circumstances surrounding the fall are not clear.

Initially, it was incorrectly stated that the man fell out of the upper deck. But when the man's brother returned from the restroom late in the first half he found his brother lying in his blood and surrounded by stadium staff at the bottom of the staircase in Section 521, where they were sitting. The man remains in serious condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was scheduled to have brain surgery at Shock Trauma on Sunday night.

A second accident was reported in Oakland where a female fan fell from the upper deck. A similar incident occurred in Buffalo last week. Victims of such accidents are often initially blamed, but owners of the property may also be at fault. A victim should contact an experienced premises liability attorney to help them determine who was at fault and to recover from a potentially negligent landowner or property owner. Such accidents may have occurred because the owner failed to properly repair a dangerous condition or failed to take clear steps to warn visitors of a dangerous property condition.
