Injured customer sues Wal-Mart for injury in store

Every year thousands of people are injured in slip and fall accidents throughout the country, including here in Maryland. After such an accident it is easy for people to assume that a slip-and-fall was due to their own clumsy mistake. However, the person may not realize what actually happened is they fell because of a serious hazard that should have been prevented.

A woman recently filed a suit against Wal-Mart after she slipped and fell and suffered a knee injury. The woman was in the freezer section when she left her cart at the mouth of the aisle and walked halfway down the aisle to select an item. She then turned to walk back to her cart and, after taking a few steps, she slipped in water that had formed on the floor due to condensation and fell onto her right knee. The woman believes that Wal-Mart failed to provide a safe place to shop and is seeking at least $500,000 in damages.

As Maryland residents know, proving fault in any lawsuit can be difficult. At times an accident can occur because a business failed to properly repair a dangerous condition or failed to take clear steps to warn customers of a dangerous property condition. As a consequence, victims of a slip and fall accident may want to work with an experienced personal injury attorney.

The issues at stake are often complex and an experienced attorney understands what issues the court will take into consideration when assigning fault and determining liability. The victim of such an accident may be entitled to significant compensation for their injuries including for medical expenses and pain and suffering.
