Maryland auto accident results in fatality

Any fatality resulting from a motor vehicle accident is a tragedy that ripples through many lives. Not only are the loved ones of the deceased affected, but if a negligent driver is involved, criminal penalties and wrongful death civil litigation changes the life of the negligent party as well. The state of Maryland has experienced a number of fatal motor vehicle accidents this year thus far, and sadly on May 11, another accident added to the numbers.

The driver of a passenger van crossed through an intersection in Charles County, Maryland, and traveled through a red light. The van then made a turn onto Route 301 where it came into contact with another vehicle. A tractor trailer traveling south on the same road crashed into the van shortly after it crossed through the intersection.

Tragically, the driver of the van died of injuries sustained from the incident. The driver of the tractor trailer was reported unharmed. The loved ones of the deceased man are no doubt mourning his loss and will likely have a great deal of medical and funeral bills to pay. If the loved ones are able to prove the driver of the tractor trailer was at fault for the incident, then they may be able to recover compensation for expenses stemming from the incident.

In an incident where a negligent party is at fault for the injuries of another, the harmed persons may be entitled to bring a civil suit in Maryland courts. Such suits often enable victims to recover monetary compensation for mounting expenses and pain and suffering, as well as obtaining justice and providing deterrence from future negligent behavior.
