Tragic accident while man changes tire on Maryland interstate

When a car gets a flat tire on a busy highway, it creates an incredibly dangerous situation, regardless of the time of day. The driver can take all the safety precautions possible, putting on their flashers and pulling as far off the road as possible, but with vehicles flying by at speeds up to 80 miles per hour, tragic car accidents resulting in wrongful deaths happen all too frequently.

A Maryland man was killed while he was changing the tire of his vehicle on the shoulder of I-695. His tire blew out early in the morning near Belair Road. He got out of his 1999 Ford Crown Victoria to change his tire when a large green tractor trailer struck him on the side of the road.

There were two other passengers in the Ford. The tractor-trailer hit the car and also injured the two passengers, a 17-year-old female and a 1-year-old infant who was ejected from the vehicle in the accident. The woman was taken to the Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, and the infant was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital. Both passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash closed traffic on the Beltway for hours. Charges have not yet been filed against the driver of the tractor-trailer, but police have identified the man.

When a tragic death occurs as a result of another's negligence, the family members and loved ones may be able to bring a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent party. Family members can get damages in the form of pain and suffering costs, economic loss and others to compensate them for their loss.
