Negligent ambulance driving leaves Maryland residents stunned

There are many things to be concerned about when getting on the road. A negligent, distracted or drunk driver could cause any number of problems including delayed traffic, a car accident, serious injuries and even fatalities. One thing many of us, including Maryland residents, do not fret about, is a negligent drivers of ambulances and other emergency vehicles. While ambulances may speed through intersections and weave in and out of traffic, it is often done with sufficient warning and care. Yet, residents of Talbots and Queen Anne's counties witnessed some extremely dangerous ambulance driving recently.

On the morning of Tuesday, December 4th, residents of Maryland witnessed the erratic and reckless driving of an ambulance on Route 50. After receiving complaints from Route 50 drivers, law enforcement engaged in pursuit of the ambulance. As the ambulance ran red lights and crossed into the westbound lanes of traffic while traveling east-bound, other drivers ducked and weaved out of the reckless vehicle's way.

Eventually, the ambulance drove into a park and ride near Route 404. Subsequently, the vehicle collided into a Cadillac and eventually came to a stop near a grassy area. The driver was apparently a patient at a nearby hospital who needed a ride home.

Shockingly, no one reported being injured in the accident and no collision occurred. However, had anyone been harmed by these negligent acts, he or she would be eligible to bring a civil claim in Maryland court. Anyone injured in an accident has the right to obtain monetary compensation for their losses from the negligent party. Losses might include pain and suffering, medical expenses and wage loss. It is imperative to be aware of one's rights in such a case so that he or she can be fairly compensated.
