3-car collision in Carroll County kills Baltimore woman

The blink of an eye; that's all it takes for a car accident to occur and lives to be changed forever. For some it means the end of life as they know it because of the personal injuries they suffer. For others, it can be the end of life altogether. The survivors are victims.

There is no restoring life to what it was after such a horrible tragedy. In cases of wrongful death, however, there is opportunity to be sure that the rights of the bereaved are protected and that the costs that will begin to mount as a result of the accident are dealt with, easing the burden of worry for the families of victims.

There are likely at least two families facing the depth of this kind of pain after a weekend crash near McDaniel College in Westminster. Officials confirm that a young Baltimore woman, aged 24, died as a result of the injuries she suffered when the car she was riding in Sunday afternoon was struck by a second car. They say that the vehicle she was in then spun around and across an oncoming lane of traffic where it was sideswiped by a third car.

Westminster police say the woman was rushed to Carroll Hospital Center where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the car she was in, a 23-year-old man, suffered injuries and was last reported in stable condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The drivers of the other two vehicles apparently were not hurt.

An investigation is now under way to determine exactly what happened. The preliminary police report says that the multi-car accident was triggered when a woman attempting to make a left turn off of Maryland Highway 140, turned into the oncoming car carrying the young couple.

No charges have been filed in the case, but that could change once authorities have completed their work.
