Publishing house employee dies in Maryland workplace accident

Most of us head into a place of work every day. We spend more time working for our employers than we spend with our loved ones. But what is it all for? For many, our hard work comes from the motivation to support our families and live fulfilling lives.

Sometimes, we might not want to go into work, but it isn't because we fear for our safety in the workplace. Apparently, however, there are work environments that prove dangerous for its diligent workers. One Maryland man just lost his life in a workplace accident that occurred in a local publishing house facility.

According news reports, the 44-year-old employee was maneuvering a forklift last Wednesday when an accident ensued. The exact cause of the accident is currently unknown. Sources do indicate that the publishing house employee wound up pinned under a shelf from the facility. When responders got him out from under it, he had already suffered critical injuries and passed away.

As already mentioned, it is uncertain what led to the work injury. Officials, including Maryland's Occupational Safety and Health Administration are conducting a thorough investigation into the deadly accident. OSHA's job is to ensure that safety standards are met at places of work, in order to protect workers' rights and their lives.

This is mere conjecture, but if it were discovered that the work environment, including work equipment, were unsafe or poorly maintained, the employer could potentially be held legally liable for the accident and death. We will post an update if more details in this tragic case develop.
