Out of Control Tractor-Trailer Crashes Along Interstate 68

A major motor vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 68 last week when the driver of an 18-wheeler apparently became ill while driving and lost control of his truck. The semi-truck reportedly swerved quickly to the left while traveling eastbound on I-68 striking an SUV and sending it over a concrete divider and into the westbound lane of traffic.

The collision occurred near Moose Curve, a section of I-68 with a sharp curve near the bottom of Haystack Mountain, which is also known for having frequent traffic accidents. Construction in the area has limited traffic in many areas along 1-68 to one lane in either direction.

No serious injuries were reported in the crash, but the SUV suffered significant damage after being forced over the wall and coming to rest on its side. The 18-wheeler eventually came to rest on top of the concrete divider separating the eastbound and westbound lanes of traffic. At least two other passenger vehicles were damaged by flying debris before the truck finally came to rest.

The accident caused significant traffic delays in both directions as first-responders and investigators responded to the accident scene. A hazardous incident response team was also on the scene to control a fuel spill caused by the crash.

The driver of the semi-truck was reportedly not hurt in the crash, but was taken to a hospital for treatment of the underlying medical condition that caused him to lose control of his vehicle. The drivers of the two cars hit by debris were also taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries that were deemed to be not life threatening.
