Fleeing suspect smashes into unsuspecting Maryland man

Fleeing the police in a vehicle is incredibly dangerous and often ends in a car crash that destroys the fleeing vehicle. All too often unsuspecting people are also involved in car accidents with the fleeing driver after these drivers attempt a dangerous maneuver or fly through stop signs and stop lights.

One Maryland man driving his truck was struck by a driver fleeing police as he passed through an intersection in South Baltimore. The man was fleeing the police after they suspected him of a drug deal. Three officers watched as a suspect was involved in a drug deal. They followed the man in his blue Honda to a shopping center.

The officers approached the vehicle, but the blue Honda took off. The wreck sent both vehicles spinning and smashed into a light pole -- they ended on top of the Honda. Police had to work to pull the innocent man out of the car and he was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. According to police, the fleeing man had his girlfriend and their child as passengers in the fleeing vehicle. After a foot chase, the man was taken into custody by police.

Despite the tragic crash the Maryland man was considerably lucky. Many high speed chase accidents end in death when the driver and police recklessly exceed the speed limits on highly trafficked streets. Police officers in such a situation must decide quickly, weighing the safety risks of chasing a suspect with the possible danger of allowing the suspect to get away. The reckless actions of the fleeing suspect make it easy to prove negligence in chase accidents and at time the negligence can be extended to the police that recklessly pursued a suspect.
