Four teenagers killed in tragic Maryland car accident

Four young men driving a Volkswagen sedan were killed in a head-on crash near Chester on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The accident happened at around 4 p.m. on April 10. Those killed were between the ages of 18 and 19. The local volunteer fire department responded to the accident and firefighters recognized one of the victims as an emergency medical technician and firefighter who worked for their department.

Local residents, including two nurses, responded to the scene of the car accident after hearing the crash. The second car involved was a Ford Focus driven by a 73-year-old professor at the U.S. Naval Academy. The professor was taken by state police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. His condition was not known but he was said to have been conscious after the crash.

The cause of the car collision remains under investigation, but authorities believe that speed may have been a factor. If the accident investigation determines that the driver of the Volkswagen was at fault, the professor may be entitled to seek compensation for his injuries from the driver's insurance company. Damages for personal injuries resulting from an auto accident may include lost wages, medical expenses and compensation for pain and suffering, among others.

In addition, the families of the other teens who were killed in the accident may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. Through a wrongful death action, family members may obtain damages for medical and burial expenses, as well as compensation for the loss of a loved one's future contributions to the family.

Maryland residents who have been injured in an accident or have lost a loved one in an accident should think about meeting with an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible. Acting quickly can help ensure that those who suffer due to the negligence of another do not suffer further by failing to exercise their legal rights.
