Man injured in police chase crash

An accident can occur at any time, even when a driver is following all of the rules of the road. For one man driving to work early on a Monday morning, a tragic accident resulted in severe injuries that took him to the hospital. The car accident came after a short police chase at high speed on Maryland highways that ended in the death of the driver trying to flee.

The chase began on Maryland 91 early on a recent Monday when an officer observed a Dodge Ram truck approaching him northbound driving over the speed limit. The truck driver reportedly passed the officer sitting in a marked sheriff's vehicle at 72 mph in a 55 mph zone. The officer turned on his emergency lights and followed the truck, signaling for the truck to stop. The driver, however, continued to accelerate and turned off of the highway until the officer eventually lost sight.

The officer then saw a dust cloud at the rear of a parking lot entrance. He entered the parking lot while the truck exited from the opposite end onto eastbound Maryland 140. The speeding truck left the lot at a high speed without yielding to traffic, striking a Ford van, according to reports. The van was driven by a man from Westminster who was injured in the accident.

Both men were transported to Carroll Hospital. The speeding truck driver later died due to the injuries sustained in the accident while the innocent man was treated and released later in the day. Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident, which could take several weeks.

When a driver is acting in a negligent manner and causes an accident, that driver may be held liable for any damages resulting from the accident. Certainly, a driver fleeing police would be considered negligent, although such extreme circumstances are not necessary to recover compensation for injuries suffered in an accident.
