Car loses control and kills Maryland man just trying to help on the highway

Tragedy can occur when an individual is simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. This week a Maryland man who responded to a friend's request for help lost his life when a car lost control on a busy highway. A police investigation into the incident may help determine if there was any negligence involved in the accident. Such a finding could help the family of the man find relief in a wrongful death claim for the loss of their loved one.

Maryland State Police reported that at least one person had been killed in the accident and another person was severely injured in the crash that occurred in Harford County early this week.

Police say that the crash happened at around 9:30 a.m. at the Route 152 and I-95 intersection when a Pontiac's tire blew out and was forced to the right shoulder of Route 152. The driver of the Pontiac pulled about 10 to 15 feet off of the roadway and called a friend for help.

The man's friend, a 54-year-old man from Abingdon, arrived at about the same time as a vehicle recovery technician from the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. They both went to work helping replacing the blown out tire of the Pontiac when suddenly a driver of a Volkswagen lost control and skidded into the Pontiac. The Volkswagen had exited from the I-95 southbound ramp onto Route 152.

The man from Abingdon and the recovery technician were still on the driver's side of the vehicle working on the tire when the accident happened and they were smashed into the Pontiac. The owner of the Pontiac was in the backseat of the vehicle when the accident happened.

The friend from Abingdon was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle recovery technician was transported to Shock Trauma. He is currently in stable condition.

Police are currently investigating the crash to determine if anyone was at fault and what may have caused the driver of the Volkswagen to lose control of her car.
