Car collision hospitalizes 9, alcohol likely involved in wreck

Nine Maryland-area residents have been hospitalized after a head-on collision over the weekend. Two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions on Route 18 last Sunday, when one of the vehicles strayed from its lane and crossed into oncoming traffic. The vehicle crashed into another car, leaving all nine people in the two vehicles with a variety of injuries.

The drivers in each vehicle had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital, and while their condition is unknown, the forceful nature of the crash and the fact that they had to be airlifted from the scene certainly indicate a very serious situation for both.

Maryland officials are still investigating the crash to determine what went wrong, but some are indicating that alcohol played a role in the wreck. Police are not releasing specifics, but it seems likely that the driver of the swaying vehicle was not sober while operating the vehicle -- if alcohol is proven to be a factor in the collision.

A car accident can turn your life upside down, as it certainly has for the nine people involved in this accident. There are medical bills to pay; rehabilitative efforts that not only affect you financially, but physically and emotionally too; and when you learn that negligent factors, such as drunk driving, may have played a role in your accident, the anger you will likely feel is understandable.

However, there are constructive steps you can take following an accident to help you get past this trying time. Consulting a personal injury lawyer is a critical first step, after which you can seek legal action against the reckless driver. Ultimately, the result of your lawsuit could earn you necessary compensation to pay medical bills and make up for lost income -- and you can gain a small sense of justice for the irresponsible actions of the negligent party.
