3 students injured in Charles County school bus accident

Parents with school-aged children send their youngsters off to the school bus every morning with the expectation they will get to class safely. Sadly, accidents involving the buses our children ride on in Montgomery and other Maryland counties happen all too often, causing sometimes serious injury. Those who get hurt should know they have rights to compensation.

This is brought to the fore once again by an accident earlier this week in Charles County. The sheriff's office there says that a 16-year-old driving a car was trying to cross an intersection in Waldorf Monday morning when he ran into a bus carrying 18 high school students.

Officials say the driver of the car suffered minor injuries that required him to be taken to a local hospital. Two students on the bus also had to be hospitalized, according to a sheriff's office spokeswoman. The nature of their injuries wasn't available at the time of this post.

The bus driver was said to be unhurt and all the other students were reportedly checked out by the nurse once they arrived at school. While there were no apparent injuries among them, they reportedly were given the OK to go home if they wished.

No charges have been filed in the matter as far as we know. But authorities say they are continuing their investigation.

These kinds of accidents are not rare. For every one that gets reported in the news there are likely to be many more that never get written up. The damage done from these accidents can be physical and emotional. Those who experience such injuries have a right to obtain all the necessary support they require to recover health and equilibrium.
