Fatal Maryland car crash kills three young people, injures one more

One Maryland community was devastated last week by a fatal accident which killed three young people, two of which would have graduated this year from a local high school. The driver accused of causing the collision is also a 20-year-old local boy, who will now stand trial for several felony citations including fleeing the scene of a serious accident and failing to report the accident to the police.

Although official charges are pending the results of toxicology tests, police officers believe that the accused driver may have been operating his vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Reports indicate that the young man had attended a party before the accident occurred, where individuals have testified that he was drinking.

Investigators report that the allegedly drunk driver crashed his vehicle into several trees and a telephone pole. The force of the collision fatally injured several of his passengers, but the driver was relatively unharmed and able to leave the scene of the accident before Montgomery County Police officers could arrive.

It took officers three hours and multiple attempts to finally apprehend the boy who reportedly asserted that he was not aware of the seriousness of his friend's injuries. This hit-and-run incident is not the only scar on the defendant's record. He was also cited for going almost 30 miles over the speed limit on a local Interstate and for his involvement in another car accident last July.

Of the five people in the car at the time of the accident, only the driver and one backseat passenger survived. The surviving passenger received medical attention after the crash and is reported to be in a non-critical state.
