Fatal Four Loko accident sparks wrongful death claim

Many readers might remember the recent controversy surrounding the canned beverage Four Loko. Four Loko is an alcoholic energy drink which quickly became very popular with young people, especially college students. Many people credited part of this popularity to the brands colorful slogan and targeted marketing. However, after numerous towns and cities saw a sudden spike in alcohol-related accidents and injuries connected to the drink, Four Loko was banned in many US states.

One family is now targeting the makers of Four Loco after their teenage son consumed two Four Lokos and was struck by a car while walking near his home. The wrongful death lawsuit claims that Phusion Projects-the company which produces Four Loko-should be held accountable for the dangerous side effects of their product.

One part of the family's lawsuit claims that Phusion Project deliberately markets Four Loko as a "party drink" and tailors their advertising campaigns towards teenagers and young people below the legal drinking age.

The suit also accuses Phusion Projects of ignoring the known dangers associated with Four Loko. Considering the evidence which led the drink to be banned in many places across the nation several months ago, the family claims the company was well aware that the mixture of caffeine and alcohol found in its product often hinders the ability of consumers to know when they are intoxicated. They assert that the continued production of this beverage was "careless and negligent" and ultimately led to the death of their son.

For its part, Phusion Project claims that this tragic accident was caused by the victim's underage drinking, not on account of their product.
