Cargo Transports trucking company sued for wrongful death

Drivers who operate big rigs and semi tractor-trailers need to exercise extra caution while behind the wheel since the mere size and weight of their vehicle can significantly damage other motorists in the event of a collision. When big rig drivers are careless or reckless on the road, they can cause serious truck accidents which could be responsible for ending a person's life.

One Maryland family is in the midst of filing a wrongful death lawsuit in Charles County Circuit Court, claiming that a semi truck driver's negligence caused the death of their son. The lawsuit was filed against both the driver and his employer, Cargo Transporters, and is asking for a $5 million dollar compensation payment.

According to police reports, the accident occurred in January 2010 on US Highway 301. The family's lawsuit claims that the big rig truck operated by the defendant forced the victim's Toyota Corolla off the road. The victim crashed into the woods which bordered the highway and was seriously hurt. He was taken by air to a hospital in Cheverly, Maryland, but succumbed to his injuries before the next day.

A report from the Maryland State Police originally cited the victim for failing to respect the truck's right of way, but the family's lawsuit states that new evidence reveals negligent driving on behalf of the truck driver. An eyewitness came forward testifying that the truck driver sped through a red light before crashing with the victim's car.

The victim is survived by his wife and parents, who have been forced to manage the financial and emotional trauma of his death for the past year. The plaintiff's are suing for compensation to cover lost wages, emotional suffering, and funeral expenses.
