Toyota Announces Yet another Million-Car Recall

For all the recalls and repairs already put into action, Toyota is still coping with car issues. Yesterday, the beleaguered car manufacturer announced yet another recall, this one for problems with the brake fluid and fuel pumps in more than 1.5 million Lexus, Avalon and other models.

About 740,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the United States.

Despite the major recall, Toyota executives claim that no car accidents related to either defect have been reported yet. That may not be too surprising, actually. At this point, if something could potentially become hazardous to drivers, it behooves Toyota to move quickly.

At this stage in the game, Toyota has no room for tragedy. They are being watched closely and any car accident could become a huge dent in company sales.

This most current recall involves the brake master cylinder, whose defect could give way to a decrease in braking power, and the fuel pump, whose defect could lead to engine stalling.

According to the Associated Press, the decision to pull the vehicles was made under Toyota's new quality control standards. Regardless of the monetary concerns that are likely behind this decision, it is still nice to see Toyota actively confronting potential problems before they turn into motor vehicle accidents.

Toyota is currently notifying owners around the world of the most recent recall, along with instructions for having their vehicle repaired at no cost.
